Stress Counselling in Ely

Stress has a way of building up quietly until it starts to take over. The deadline that's stopped feeling manageable. The tension that lives in your shoulders by Tuesday afternoon. The sleep that's no longer restful. The patience that's running thinner with the people you love.

If you've been pushing through for a long time and it's catching up with you, you're not alone — and you don't have to keep running on empty.

I offer in-person stress counselling in Ely, providing a calm, confidential space to step out of the pressure for an hour and start working out what needs to change. My counselling practice is based at Centre E in Ely, within easy reach of the city centre and surrounding villages. Many clients travel in from Soham, Littleport, Little Downham, Stretham, Haddenham, Witchford, and the wider Cambridgeshire Fens. For working professionals in particular, that physical separation from home and work matters — a dedicated 50 minutes that belongs only to you, away from screens, notifications, and the next thing on the list.

If travelling to Ely isn't practical, I also offer secure online sessions.

What stress counselling can help with

Counselling offers a safe, non-judgmental space to:

  • Recognise the specific pressures that are wearing you down — at work, at home, or both

  • Understand the patterns and beliefs that keep you saying yes when you need to say no

  • Reduce the physical symptoms — the tension, the broken sleep, the racing mind, the gut issues

  • Rebuild a sustainable pace before stress tips into burnout, anxiety, or depression

  • Reconnect with the parts of life that have started feeling like background noise

  • Make decisions about what to change — and what to let go of

Over time, therapy helps you feel calmer, clearer, and more in control of your time, your energy, and your choices.

Understanding stress

Stress is your body's natural response to demand — a useful, energising signal in short bursts. The problem isn't stress itself. The problem is when the alarm doesn't switch off.

Chronic stress affects sleep, focus, mood, immunity, digestion, and relationships. For working professionals especially, it often shows up first as exhaustion you can't sleep off, irritability that surprises you, or a creeping sense that you're going through the motions. Left unaddressed, prolonged stress can develop into burnout, anxiety, or depression — but it doesn't have to.

Stress isn't a sign of weakness or poor character. It's a signal that the load you're carrying has outgrown the resources you're using to carry it. Counselling helps you take that signal seriously, before your body forces the conversation.

How I work

I'm a BACP-registered psychotherapist trained in the Adlerian approach, with an integrative style that draws on Cognitive Behavioural and somatic techniques where they help. In practice, this means we work on both the immediate symptoms — the tension, the disturbed sleep, the difficulty switching off — and the underlying patterns that keep stress accumulating in the first place.

Sessions move at your pace. There's no pressure to "perform" or to talk about things before you're ready. The work is collaborative, confidential, and focused on what matters most to you.

Sessions and Fees

Sessions are £50 and last 50 minutes. Daytime and evening appointments are available, with flexibility designed around working schedules. Weekly or fortnightly sessions are typical, depending on what works for you.

If stress has started running your life, counselling can help you get a foothold again. Get in touch through the Contact page to arrange an initial session.
